Karen Borg joined the family business in 1990. She read for a Master Degree in Business Administration from Henley Management College and specialised in Business Finance. She joined the hospitality side of the business and became Managing Director of the Group’s hotels at the time. Under her leadership the hospitality division has been repositioned from having standard tourist properties to the luxury segment with the creation of the 1926 Collection. The 1926 Collection currently consists of 4 hotels in Sliema and Valletta, including a 5 star hotel and a Michelin star restaurant. As CEO of Hospitality, she has also spearheaded several property development projects including a luxury living concept in central Sliema and several of the groups hotels. Karen is one of two rotating Chairmen of Bortex Group Holdings and was the first woman to serve on the board of Malta’s national airline Airmalta plc, where she also sat on the audit committee.
