Manufacturing & Retail

Bortex Clothing Industry Ltd was set up in 1964 on the initiative of entrepreneur Sunny Borg. It is Malta’s longest established brand in formal men’s tailoring. In 1971, it entered into a joint venture with the Dutch Van Gils Group, a manufacturer of high quality men’s suits, jackets and trousers, supplying the finest retail brands on the European market. In 1987, the Van Gils shares were bought by Next p.l.c. enabling Bortex to extend its product profile into children’s and ladies wear.In 1991, the Next p.l.c shares within the Bortex Group were wholly bought up by the Borg family. Since then the family have continued to expand the company’s interests within the fashion industry.

Hospitality & Property

Roosendaal Hotels Limited was set up on 10 July 1975.

When Mr Saviour Borg saw how Malta’s tourism market was developing in the 70’s he took over the lease of a Sliema Hotel, the Capua Court Hotel, with a plan to open a chain of establishments. Tourism became another passion for Mr Borg, and his company’s logo, the five petalled rose, reflected his ambitious drive to create this chain, by leasing and acquiring further hotels, namely Promenade Hotel in Sliema, Concorde, Liliana and San Mark Hotels in Bugibba. In 1996 the Group acquired the Plevna Hotel. Over the years the rationalisation of the hospitality segment saw the Group moving out of the North and focusing on Sliema and Valletta.

Today the company operates the four star 1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa, located in a quiet residential area off Qui-si-Sana seafront with an inventory of 170 rooms of which 52 are suites. Many of the suites boast views of Manoel Island and Valletta. The hotel consists of a luxury spa and restaurant, as well as a private beach club 200 metres from the hotel.

1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa is inspired by the life and passions of Mr Saviour Borg. He lived a life that was symbolised by courage, ambition, intuition, honesty and integrity, and 1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa reflects all of that, and more.

The company operates also a 7 suite boutique hotel in Valletta, 1926 Le Parisot Boutique Suite.

1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa

Situated in the bustling seafront city of Sliema, 1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spaa is a statement to modernity, lean luxury and sustainability, whilst also operating a remarkable seasonal Beach Club. This is situated just 200 metres away from the hotel, on the water’s edge.

Combining a calm and intimate ambiance with a dash of theatre, 1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa also boasts a lively lounge and a restaurant. Sunny’s Lounge is the perfect place to get together for a glass of wine, beer or a classic cocktail. Our restaurant, Margaux is inspired by the flavours and colours of Southern French cuisine mixed in with modern European dishes that can be paired with selected wines from the French Region.

1926 Le Parisot Boutique Suite

The Palazzo itself features seven elegant suites with full kitchen facilities, all designed to the finest standards and with excellent facilities and state-of-the-art technology. Every aspect of wellbeing has been taken care of.
